Shetlands trip: A room with a lovely view

We stayed at the Baltasound Hotel, the "northernmost hotel in the UK."

The hotel consists of buildings around a grass square: a main stone building with an added wing and a bunch of cabins with three room-and-bathroom lodgings in each.

We checked in at the main building -- first meeting the taciturn chef who seemed quite put out at having to talk with guests, then meeting the owner Stephen. The latter took us out to our cabin portion, an end unit in the middle cabin facing the house.

As we walked to the cabin, Stephen assured us that we would "enjoy the lovely view." We figured this meant the back side (facing the water) had a nice window.

We went in through the front door...

...and... um...

In all fairness, there WAS a back-facing window.

It even had a lovely view, if one stood on the toilet and stuck one's head out the window.

Dinner had a lovely view too.
