Shetlands trip, step 4: To Unst
Several people on the big ferry had asked if we were going to rent a car. We hadn't planned to, but enough people implied we would need one that we decided to ask. Normally without a reservation we'd have been out of luck, but someone had just cancelled and we were able to get their car. We ended up being very grateful to have it.
Orhan drove first, since (according to him) I am better at navigating with a map.
Dev helped.
Evidence of the oil/gas industry.
The ferry to Yell!
The crossing took about 12 minutes, so we headed to the upper deck to look back at the Mainland (as Shetlanders call their biggest island) and forward to Yell.
I drove the rest of the time since Orhan's driving sometimes makes me car sick.
Our next ferry, from Yell to Unst, was smaller, yet also somehow... Bigga.
This was one of the most remarkable parking jobs of my life. Bear in mind that car rentals in the UK are stick shift.
So long, Yell.
Tiny island rising like cake.
Police helping drive the boat?
